Job Description

Main purpose of the job:

Incumbent will be reporting to head chef and will be responsible for overseeing duties in the kitchen with day-to-day operations, including food preparation, cooking, menu planning and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

 Education and Experience required:

  • Qualification in Culinary Arts studies
  • Previous work experience in kitchen and training
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the kitchen
  • Strong Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) is advantageous
  • Hospital experience is advantageous
  • Knowledge of special diets
  • Matric, grade 12 is essential

Knowledge, skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) principles and practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment to ensure safe operation
  • Follow proper food handling and storage procedures to prevent contamination and ensure food safety
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail

  • Assist in inventory management and ordering of supplies as needed
